Hello Elementary Families,

                After careful consideration, the School City of Hammond has determined that we are able to reopen registration for the Safe Zone program for currently enrolled SCH students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. If your student is already in the Safe Zone program, you do not need to register again.

                The Safe Zone program is a space for elementary students of families with essential workers to go during school hours to be supervised while they complete their e-learning work. Safe Zones are housed in three buildings: Harding, Irving, and Maywood. When completing the registration form, please indicate which of the three schools is closest to your home. The program runs on Mondays-Fridays from 8:45 – 3:45. Students do not have to attend every day and can arrive after 8:45 or be picked up before 3:45. While at the building, students will receive a free lunch each day.

Please note that the Safe Zone program is not a school; students will continue to interact and receive full instruction virtually by their current e-learning teachers. Safe Zone staff will be available to supervise and assist with technology difficulties. Because of strict health and safety protocol, Safe Zone staff will not be able to offer any academic support. Students needing academic assistance must rely on their e-learning teacher.

SCH will reopen registration from October 26 - October 30 to fill current openings at each of the 3 Safe Zone buildings. Because this is a reopening of registration, there are limited spots available and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Parents/Guardians of Kindergarten – 5th grade students who are accepted into the program will be notified during the week of November 2 and will be able to start to attend at the assigned building the week of November 9. Hola familias de primaria,

Después de una cuidadosa consideración, las escuelas Públicas de la Ciudad de Hammond han determinado que podemos reabrir inscripciones para el programa Safe Zone (zona segura) para los estudiantes de SCH actualmente inscritos en los grados de kinder a quinto grado.

 El programa Safe Zone es un espacio para que los estudiantes de primaria de familias con trabajadores esenciales vayan durante el horario escolar para ser supervisados  mientras completan su trabajo de e-learning.  Los programas de zona segura están ubicadas en tres escuelas: Harding, Irving y Maywood.  Al completar el formulario de inscripción, indique cuál de las tres escuelas está más cerca de su hogar.  El programa se lleva a cabo de lunes a viernes de 8:45 a 3:45.  Los estudiantes no tienen que asistir todos los días y pueden llegar después de las 8:45 o ser recogidos antes de las 3:45.  Mientras estén en el edificio, los estudiantes recibirán un almuerzo gratis todos los días.

Tenga en cuenta que el programa de zona segura  no es una escuela;  los estudiantes continuarán interactuando y recibirán instrucción completa virtualmente por parte de sus maestros actuales de aprendizaje electrónico.  El personal de zona segura estará disponible para supervisar y ayudar con las dificultades tecnológicas.  Debido al estricto protocolo de salud y seguridad, el personal de zona segura no podrá ofrecer ningún apoyo académico.  Los estudiantes que necesiten asistencia académica deben recibir apoyo de su maestro de aprendizaje electrónico.

SCH reabrirá las inscripciones del 26 al 30 de octubre para llenar las vacantes actuales de zona segura en cada una de los 3 escuelas.  Debido a que esta es una reapertura de inscripciones, hay lugares limitados disponibles y se llenarán por orden de llegada.  Padres/tutores de kínder: Los estudiantes de quinto grado que sean aceptados en el programa serán notificados durante la semana del 2 de noviembre y podrán comenzar a asistir en el edificio asignado la semana del 9 de noviembre.
