Jefferson Elementary School
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School is located in the south central section of the City of Hammond. The original building was built in 1955 with a maximum capacity of 200 students. It was remodeled in 1970 adding two additional classrooms raising the capacity to 250 students. The original structure was demolished in 2005 and a modified two-story building was built on the surrounding land that has the capacity for 500 students. Jefferson Elementary provides for a wide range of educational needs. Each classroom is a heterogeneous mix of students with a variety of ethnic, socio-economic and educational needs. This includes students with learning disabilities, hearing impaired students, and the academically gifted. We embrace an inclusionary model of instruction in EVERY classroom. Go Tigers!
