SCH Transportation Update

SCH Transportation Update

August 22, 2021 Update

Transportation schedules have been adjusted to reduce overcrowding and time delays at all schools.  The schedule can be found here.

The following changes have been made:

  • The high schools will now use a 3-tiered model of transport.
    • Morton High School students must check both AM and PM schedules for buses, as they may be assigned different buses in the morning compared to the afternoon.
  • The elementary and middle schools will now use a 2-tiered model of transport.
    • As a result of this update, O'Bannon Elementary School bus times have changed.
      • Due to the late nature of this notice, the transportation department will do its best to accommodate any student who misses their bus to O'Bannon this week.
        • If your student attends O'Bannon and is an eligible rider, and they miss the bus during the week of August 23, contact (219) 933-2438.
  • Middle School and High School stops are separate. Please make sure your student boards the appropriate bus.
  • Students are to ride at the appropriate times to prevent transport delays.

Dear SCH Families:

We want to thank our new and returning families for their patience and understanding as we all navigate the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. Above all, we're committed to the education of our students and are so excited to see them back in the classroom.

As with any other school district, the first few days can present challenges that we must immediately address. One significant issue facing SCH is transportation. The district office is working directly with the transportation department to address the problems and deliver seamless transportation to the students we serve.

How are we doing this?

  • Reorganization of bus routes. Starting the week of August 23, all high school transportation schedules will shift to the following temporary three-tier transport model:
    • The new morning drop-off schedule at the high schools will be at 6:30 a.m., 6:55 a.m., and 7:20 a.m.
    • The new afternoon pick-up schedule at the high schools will be 2:15 p.m., 2:40 p.m., and 3 p.m.
      • Students will follow this schedule until further notice.
    • SCH will notify parents via ParentSquare about schedule updates.
  • Construction and traffic monitoring. Construction traffic is a real challenge and is causing unexpected delays in routes. SCH will continue to take open construction projects and potential traffic issues into account when developing new routes.
    • Parents/guardians who transport students on their own should factor in these potential traffic delays when dropping off/picking up.
  • District-wide hiring initiative. SCH is committed to hiring and retaining bus drivers and monitors. We are actively recruiting and advertising.

If you or someone you know is interested in these positions or have any further questions about transportation, please email us at Emails will be responded to in the order they are received.

Thank you for being patient as we work to do what's best for our students.
