9/13/19 update from Superintendent Scott Miller on 9/11 Code White.

Letter from Superintendent Scott Miller regarding the district Code White on 9/11/19

At SCH, we do not believe that the results of the state’s new high-stakes assessment, iLearn, accurately reflect the abilities, learning and achievement of our students and schools.  For the 4th time in 10 years, the state has moved the target and has proven only one thing:  that if you continue to change the expectations and standards, people will not be able to meet them at the same pace.  Please consider advocating with your voice, your posts, and your vote to stop this punitive testing system and to bring about a fair and balanced accountability system that recognizes the many gains our students do make and the challenges they have to overcome daily.  Let those who voted for and authorized the millions of tax dollars for this test know that our kids, teachers, schools and communities deserve better.

The link will take you to the presentation that shares our data and some of the steps we are taking to move forward.

Hammond Education Foundation

‚Äč

Every child in Hammond deserves access to a quality public education.

In order to make that vision a reality in the School City of Hammond, a district where 85% of students are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program, we must recruit, train, and retain the very best educators. We believe that an empowered teaching force is the lever in addressing the very real gaps affecting our school district and community.  Our investments reflect that belief.
