As the Director of the Language Development Program, Anthony Salinas is responsible for implementing and evaluating programs that facilitate language acquisition for over 2,000 English learners within the School City of Hammond.

Anthony has served the School City of Hammond and its community for 15 years.  He began his career as a Bilingual Education teacher at Columbia Elementary School.  He worked with students in grades K-5 as a Pull-Out teacher and then as a Sheltered English teacher.  During the summer months, Anthony continued his service to the community by teaching summer school for the Migrant Education Program.

He made the transition to leadership by serving as the Assistant to the Principal at Washington Irving Elementary School.  He then returned to Columbia Elementary School where he served as Principal for six rewarding years before becoming the Director of the Language Development Program.

Anthony holds a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from Purdue University, Calumet as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish Education with a Bilingual/Bicultural Endorsement from Indiana University, Bloomington.  He is a graduate of East Chicago Central High School. 

He has enjoyed sharing his experiences as a teacher of English Learners and has presented on the topic of Second Language Acquisition at the Indiana Department of Education as well as several local universities including, Purdue Calumet, Valparaiso University, and Calumet College of St.  Joseph.

Anthony is an annual All School PTA Member, State Life PTA Member, and Hammond Woodmar Kiwanis Member.

Hobbies include:  Spending time with family, Eating, Dancing, Movies, the Chicago Cubs, Cars, Reading, and Napping
