Content-Based English as a New Language (ENL)

The goal is to develop fluency in English. ENL teachers make use of instructional materials, learning tasks, and classroom techniques from academic content areas as the vehicle for developing language, content, cognitive and study skills. English is used as the medium of instruction. Students in Content-Based ENL classrooms are typically all EL students.

General education SIOP® trained teachers make use of instructional materials, learning tasks, and classroom techniques from grade-level academic content areas as the vehicle for developing language, content, cognitive and study skills. English is used as the medium of instruction. In this model, students may be all ELs or ELs mixed with non-ELs and/or former EL students.
