Team Hammond was recognized as Co-Recipient of the Chanute
Prize, presented at the Society of Innovators 2007-2008 Induction Ceremony
held on October18.

Presentation to Elementary
Schools
Superintendent Watkins, on behalf of Rep. Linda Lawson, stated
each elementary school will be given one copy of the book, “Hoosier
Heart,” a story about Hoosiers and the great state of Indiana.
“Hoosier Heart” was written by Luke Messer and illustrated
by Jennifer Messer. Rep. Lawson has donated this book for inclusion
in the school’s Media Center.

of Minutes
The Minutes of the October 23 Board Meeting were approved
as recorded.
Recommendations
of the Superintendent
The Board approved the following recommendations of the
Superintendent on personnel; accounts payable voucher registers; declaration
of an emergency to allow the use of Capital Project Emergency Funds
to repair the Clark High School football field lights and approval of
the quote from Emcor Hyre Electric Company for the sum of $4,750; approval
of requests for Field Trip Approval: Kenwood Elementary School - Dunes
Learning Center, 2/21/08 – 2/22/08 and Jefferson Elementary School
- Dunes Learning Center, 12/6/07 – 12/7/07; approval of requests
to accept Donations: Gavit Middle/High School - Take Charge of Education,
$374.13, Jefferson Elementary School - Environmental Learning Center’s
Adopt-A-School program, $1,235 and Harding Elementary School - Mr. Frank
Mrvan, Jr., Two books for the School Library; approval of requests for
Extra-Curricular Purchases: Hammond High School - Mums for Fundraiser
from vendor Gardner’s, $557.35, Hammond High School - Volleyball

- Purchase of Dictionaries from Follet, $4,761.36, Gavit Middle/High

- Portrait Booking Agreement from Inter-State Studio and Columbia Elementary
School - Portrait Booking Agreement from Inter-State Studio; declare
outdated, as of November 8, 2007, surplus technology equipment currently
housed at the Hammond Area Career Center as having a market value that
is less than the estimated cost of the sale and transportation of the
property and that the equipment be recycled; enter into a contract with
Brain Hurricane, a provider of Supplemental Education Services as required
by No Child Left Behind; agreement between IUNW and SCH for Training
of Social Worker Students; application by Scott Middle School for the
GLEAMS (Great Lakes Educators of Aquatics and Marine Science) Grant
for the amount of $200; submission of the Title IV, Part A Grant in
the amount of $76,554 for 2007-2009; submission of the Elementary and
Secondary Act, Title II, Part A Grant in the amount of $841,800 for
2007-2009; submission of the Title V, Part A Innovation Programs Grant
in the amount of $29,170 for 2007-2009; and contract with the International
Center for Leadership in Education, Inc. for consulting projects for
the 2007-2008 school year in the amount not to exceed $14,000 plus travel
expenses.
