Diversity of Life Scavenger Hunt

TIME IS SHORT!  Show your artistic, writing, and research skills to accomplish as many of these tasks as possible.  Even though we may spend some time in the library, the research is up to you!  The maximum amount of points awarded is listed on the side.  Turn in your projects one at a time as you finish them so that they do not pile up!  The final deadline for ALL submissions is May 23rd.  Your goal is to get 100 points or more.  You may do as few or all as you would like, but remember this is your grade!  This is not extra credit, THIS IS AN ASSIGNMENT!

All work should be typed and/ or done as neatly as possible.  (Typed means 10 or 12 point font and single spaced) Please refer to the descriptions for actual details and requirements.

Seed Collection: A total of 20 different seed types will be collected and organized onto a board.  Five different seeds types in four categories should be met.  The four categories are: 1) fruits, 2) vegetables, 3) flowers, 4) trees, weeds, or grass.

Neatness counts!

ü      (Per Type): If seeds are small, 5-10 seeds should be shown. If seeds are medium sized, 2-3 should be shown.  If the seed is large, only 1 needs to be shown.

ü       All seeds are to be correctly mounted using baggies, glue, iron-on sealer, etc. (Tape does not work well)

Tips for Seed Collection:

ü       Label seeds right away and/ or store them in a safe place where they will not get thrown away.  Notecards may be used, but not necessary.

ü       Try to identify your seeds right away, this way your research doesn’t pile up on you.

ü       Make sure seeds are thoroughly dry before mounting them.  Laying them on a paper towel helps soak up moisture.  If they are not dry and put into a baggie, they can mold.  L

ü       Even though store bought seeds are ok, do not submit the actual package of seeds.
