Welcome to the Morton High School website. Home of the “Governors,” Morton High School is one of four high schools in Hammond, Indiana (population: 83,000) and is located on the southeast corner of Grand Avenue and 169th Street, just two blocks west of Cline Avenue. The school can easily be accessed from both the Indiana Toll Road and Interstate 80/94.
Despite being a part of a large school district, Morton High School offers an excellent education within a traditional neighborhood school setting. The area surrounding Morton is known as “Hessville” in Hammond, and the community’s identification with the “Hessville” neighborhood has instilled a sense of pride and spirit within our school.
The very first class graduated from Morton High School in 1954, and the current facility opened in 1968. At that time, a blue-collar workforce that relied heavily on the industry in the area raised their families in Hessville. In the years that followed, the community welcomed more families from a variety of backgrounds, and today, our school population mirrors the
cultural diversity found in most urban settings.
As our curriculum reflects, we value our diversity at Morton. We believe our school environment helps prepare our graduating seniors to succeed in college or in the workforce, and we are proud of the fact that thousands of Morton alumni have gone on to become integral members of society.
Our website will provide you with information about our school. Whether you are a student, parent, community member, or someone looking for an outstanding educational environment, I hope you will find our website to be a valuable tool, and we personally invite you to visit Morton High School the next time you are in Hessville.
Thank you for visiting us and we hope that you enjoy your visit to our website!
