As Principal of Hammond Morton High School, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our website. Morton High School has the biggest enrollment of the School Districts four public high schools with a student population of approximately 1,200 students. We are located in Hammond, Indiana at 6915 Grand Avenue and can be easily accessed by both the Indiana Toll Road and Interstate 80/94. Hammond Morton High School established its first graduating class back in 1954 and just completed its 57th class. A rich tradition surrounds Morton and the community of “Hessville.” Hammond Morton Alumni have gone off to become successful working professionals as well as serving as positive role models for the next generation of students to walk through its doors. Morton students receive a “Top Notch” education from Faculty and Staff members who have an invested interest in each student’s education and future. The 2011-2012 school year is the beginning of TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement program. This is just one of four programs Morton High School currently has in place. In 2009-2010, we initiated Small Learning Community’s with the beginning of the 9th Grade Academy. In 2010-2011, we added the 10th Grade Academy. Also in 2010-2011, Morton High School and the School City of Hammond added the Academy for the Performing Arts. These programs were made possible by faculty and community members who have a “vision” for what a model school should look like and now it has become a reality. Our community has a tremendous amount of pride and supports the school for what is best for ALL children. Our curriculum provides each student with a multicultural education experience within a community that is diverse in nature. The focus is placed upon rigor, relevance, and relationships. The relationship piece is the key because without it then rigor and relevance cannot take place. The motto at Hammond Morton High School is all about teamwork, “Together, Everyone, Achieves, More.” Never settle for second place when first is available and aspire to be the best you can be at all times. Provide 100% energy towards academics as well as getting involved with the multitude of extracurricular programs Morton High School has to offer. I hope you find the website informative and useful. Please feel free to contact my office if I can be of further assistance in any way. As always, we welcome and invite you for a visit if you happen to be in our neighborhood. Sincerely,
Douglas M. Friend |
