Chess Club- The chess club gives students the opportunity to play a game involving logic and friendly competition. Students are pitted against each other and their wit and determination decides who the victor will be.

Drama Club- Drama Club provides the students with an opportunity to show off their talents in a performance as well as their artistic creativity when helping with set designs. They are also given the chance to see real actors and actresses live on stage. It is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grades

Gardening Club-We plan what we can do to beautify the outside of our school. We plant and take care of the gardens at the front entrance and the side entrances. We get a Unilever grant each year to fund our efforts.

Oratorical Club-The Oratorical Club is sponsored by the Hammond Optimistic Club. The competition has strict rules. On the local level, the optimistic club holds their local competition at the Wicker Social clubhouse. Eggers has participated for the last four years. In fact one of our Eggers family retirees, Mrs. Irene Behling’s husband is a part of the Optimistic Club. It is a traditionally male club that has been around for years. Eggers has been honored to have placed twice and we proceeded to win regional with Calvin Sanders.

Science Olympiad- dedicated to creating a passion for science, improving science skills and providing opportunities for students with interests in a wide range of science topics. The S.O. team meets to develop skills and knowledge in a vast area of sciences. We compete in tournaments; pitting skill, creativity and knowledge against like minded students from Hammond and other northwest Indiana schools. We emphasize problem solving, in depth subject knowledge, team work, cooperative learning and above all a joy and love of science

Tutoring After School-After School Study Days exist so students may work on their homework, receive homework help, or receive extra instruction on academic skills and strategies. Students with a RAZ Kids online reading account may also use this time to read on the computer.

Chorus-The Eggers Chorus is a performing organization that welcomes all students to display their talents or to fulfill their desire to learn to sing/ perform. All styles of age appropriate musical performance is acceptable.

Student Council- The student council gives the students a chance to bring together students and staff by planning activities for the school as well as working together in a democratic atmosphere. This group also works within the community heading up a food drive each year around the holidays (this year a total of 1,466 food items were collected) as well as efforts to collect money to send as relief through the Red Cross for the recent natural disasters around the world.

Conflict Mediators- Works with peer counseling in order to help students learn ways to resolve their problems through the means of communication. Communicative strategies are shared with student volunteers who then employ those strategies to attempt mediation of peers in a supervised setting.

National Junior Honor Society- Students who earn at least a 3.5 GPA in scholarship and are recommended by their teachers are eligible to become members of NJHS. Students are recommended by how they demonstrate: Citizenship, Character, Service, and Leadership.

Robotics- FIRST® is a not-for-profit
organization that designs fun, motivational programs to help young people
aged 6-18 discover and develop a passion for science, technology, engineering,
and math (STEM) through challenging robotics competitions. The mission of
FIRST is to inspire youth to be the science and technology leaders of tomorrow
by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build their skills,
inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence,
communication, and leadership. Over 250,000 students and 90,000 adult Mentors
and Volunteers from more than 50 countries participate annually. FIRST students
qualify for $14 million in college scholarships. All competitions culminate
at the annual FIRST Championship. Many of our students continue on to be engineers,
teachers and also work in the field of medicine.

Yearbook-Yearbook is a select group of about 3 or 4 students who excel in writing and are outgoing and want to enhance their interview or photography skills. They are in charge of coming up with feature stories for the yearbook as well as interviewing the people involved and writing the stories.
