WHAT: The middle school years go quickly and are the next stepping stone in school to prepare for high school and beyond. The George Rogers Clark Middle School Guidance Department is here to assist students in grades 6 – 8 with an array of presenting issues. Whether it is a scheduling question, conflict with a peer, or assistance with a family issue impacting a student's education, we are here to help. Gaining skills in how to manage conflict, transitions, stress, and anger while maintaining a positive self image is crucial to the educational process and development of a positive future. WHERE/WHEN: Parents are encouraged to call their student's counselor to make an appointment. Students are more than welcome to stop by Student Services for assistance before school, after school, or after they eat lunch. WHY: We strive to ensure students are responsible in achieving the highest educational experience possible at Clark. We want our students to have a healthy and safe educational, social and emotional experience. We encourage the students to be well-rounded in academics and extra-curricular activities to have a fully diverse experience at school. This teaches time management and the skill of prioritizing their commitments. Middle school years are important in developing self discipline for a smooth transition to high school. The 21st Century Scholars program no longer requires income verification. Parents of any 7th or 8th grade student that receives free or reduced lunch can fill out an application in person or on-line prior to the end of June of the student's 8th grade year. This program provides Indiana graduates with an exceptional opportunity to attend college at little or no cost to the family. All the student has to do is be a model student and receive a passing average. Please see the link below to apply and for all the stipulations! Planning for a career can be a lot of fun. The Drive of Your Life link below is an exciting and interactive way to explore different careers in the style of a video game. This offers students a way of knowing what they are interested in and what they need to seek out educationally to achieve that goal. Sixth and 8th grade students will be completing Graduation Plans this year. Stop by the counselor's office after February 2010 to see your child's plan for the future.
