Health Careers


Program Information

If you're looking for an opportunity to succeed and have dreams of helping others, then focus on a health career. Growth patterns for employment are projected to increase through the year 2030. This program will equip you with a working knowledge of different occupations within the medical field. You'll learn the skills and procedures necessary to function in such health agencies as hospitals, nursing homes or doctors' offices. You can also use this education at a post-secondary institution.

First-year students will explore health career opportunities in dental assisting, veterinarian aide, medical records clerk, respiratory therapy aide, phlebotomy, and other health careers. Students completing 2 years are eligible to receive up to 8 college credit hours. Second year students may qualify for internships, work study programs, and college level classes.

Wages

High School Diploma with Career Training: $8.00-$26.00/hr.
College or Additional Technical Training: $12.00-$35.00/hr.

Mrs. Schafer is the instructor for the Health Careers II class.  She has 28 years experience as a Registered Nurse in many aspects of Nursing. After receiving her degree from IUN, she began her career in Surgical /Pediatric Nursing at a local Hospital, and then went on to pursue Home Health Nursing and School Nursing.  She now enjoys sharing her real life experiences and knowledge of Health Care Systems with students who are contemplating a career in Health Care.


About the Class

 

 

 

Students obtain C.P.R. for Heath Care Providers and basic state approval of patient care skills. Select Students are eligible for up to 9 hours of hours of college credit.
