Program Information

This Program is designed to teach technical skills in patient preparation, chair-slide assisting and dental materials. The student will be prepared to perform office tasks, lab duties and assisting the Dental Hygienist or Dentist. Eligible students may take the DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) exam.

Wages

High School Diploma with Career Training: $10.00/hr - $12.00/hr
College or Additional Technical Training: $13.97/hr - $16.00/hr

Mrs. Pratl is the instructor for the Dental assisting class.  She has 23 years experience in the general and orthodontic field of dentistry.  Mrs. Pratl began her career  when she was a sophomore in high school at Orthodontics, Inc. in Valparaiso.  There at Orthodontics Inc., she completed all hours required for her internship in the dental program. Upon graduation, she remained a dedicated full-time employee for 18 years while  attending Indiana University Northwest for Pre- Dentistry, and later switched to get her education degree. After many years in dentistry, she started work as a correctional officer for three years at the Lake County Jail.  She now enjoys sharing her real life experiences and knowledge of the dental career with students who are contemplating a career in dental.

After school, she also coaches cheerleading and softball.
