If
you enjoy working with children ages preschool through third grade, you should consider signing up for the Early Childhood Education program at the Hammond Area Career Center. The curriculum focuses on knowledge and skills needed to become successful working with children. Students gain experience working with children during class time at local preschools and local elementary schools. The first year students can receive 3 Early Childhood credits from Ivy Tech Community College. Second year students can receive 6 Early Childhood credits from Ivy Tech Community College.

About
the Class
The
Early Childhood II program is designed for high school seniors interested
in exploring and investigating careers working within a chosen age/grade
level (preschool and kindergarten through grade 3). All intern teaching
experiences are preplanned by the student, Early Childhood teacher,
and supervising teacher(s) who are interested in providing the Early
Childhood Intern student with experiences in (1) Classroom Organization,
(2) Classroom Management, (3) Curriculum and Instruction, (4) Observations
of Teaching, and (5) Instructional Experiences. Foundation work is
continued for those students who choose to meet requirements for
the CDA (Child Development Associate) credential. Included in the
program are topics related to Workplace Readiness.
